YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The "Dialogue of Civilizations" international scientific conference dedicated to the 1700th anniversary of proclamation of Christianity in Armenia opened in Yerevan on August 20.
The conference discussed the historical connections between the Armenian and Spanish peoples as well as the issue of amalgamation of cultures.
Wishing the conference success–ANAS President Fadey Sargssian pointed out that culture and science have always been a means of communication with different people.
The most disputable and–hence–interesting is the hypothesis on the common origin of the Armenian people and the Basque people. It is no coincidence that the delegation of scholars from Spain includes Basque scholars.
According to one of the organizers of the conference–President of the International Linguistic Academy Vahan Sargssian–the goal of the conference is to create conditions for further cooperation among the participants. The reports delivered proved a common character of languages–anthropological type–culture–customs. These discoveries testify to the fact that the Basques were divided from the Armenian people and settled down in Spain.
For the most part–the forum will be held not in the ANAS assembly hall–but in historic places in Armenia. Vahan Sargssian is optimistic and hopes that the "Dialogue of Civilizations" conference will become a tradition in Armenia.
