WASHINGTON–President Robert Kocharian and Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian addressed some 80 organizational representatives and members of various Diasporan communities in North America Monday–during the opening session of the preparatory meeting for the Diaspora-Armenia Conference.
The meeting–which was held at the Armenian Embassy in Washington–was intended to bring community representatives to discuss various issues surrounding the Conference slated to take place in September.
President Kocharian urged the participants to discuss issues without reservation. He noted that the ties between Armenia and the Diaspora are of great importance to the development of the homeland. At the same time Kocharian emphasized that this movement is a process and the upcoming conference will be only a step in that process. He challenged the participants to remain vigilant and to actively take part in the strengthening of Diaspora and Homeland relations.
Foreign Minister Oskanian also noted the great significance of the meeting and the upcoming conference–calling on community representatives to freely discuss their concerns and to actively contribute to the potential success of the Conference.
Participating in the meeting–among others–were representatives of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Western US Central Committee; Armenian Relief Society Western US–the Homenetmen Western US Regional Executive–the Hamazkayine Western Regional Executive and the Armenian Youth Federation Western American Central Executive.
