Dr. Roy Sessions–the chief physician monitoring the treatment of His Holiness Karekin I–Catholicos of All Armenia’s–said that the pontiff’s recovery from his most recent surgery was impressive–reported Eastern Primate Archbishop Khajag Barsamian in a telephone conversation with Asbarez.
The Catholicos was released from the hospital last Wednesday after undergoing surgery to remove a cancerous growth. The surgery involved the removal of a portion of his tongue and subsequent reconstructive surgery.
Barsamian noted that the Catholicos’ speech "will be affected–we don’t know how much," adding that the medical team treating the pontiff were forthright in reporting all processes to the Catholicos.
Sessions told Barsamian that the recovery was much better than the last surgery and announced that all the cancer from the Catholicos’ mouth had been removed.
Barsamian urged the public to continue to pray for the Catholicos recovery and expressed his and the pontiff’s appreciation for all messages of good will and speedy recovery from parishioners.
