STEPANAKERT (Karabakh Press Service)–Gennadiy Seleznev–the speaker of the State Duma of Russia–said Thursday that no "additional forces," including the Council of Europe–should be drawn to the settlement of the Karabakh conflict.
As the Russian media reported–Seleznev made the statement following a meeting with Armenian National Assembly Speaker Armen Khachatrian.
The speaker of the lower house of the Russian parliament said that for the settlement of the Karabakh conflict–Karabakh needed to activate the work of the OSCE Minsk Group. Seleznev voiced confidence that this conflict could be resolved only politically.
The speaker of the State Duma said the attempts to draw parallels between the ongoing events in Afghanistan and Karabakh "were a great political delusion."
"These are two completely different conflicts," stressed Seleznev. He ruled out the possibility of Nagorno Karabakh territory being used for drugs transit and training of terrorists.
