YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–National Assembly Speaker Babken Ararktsian met with European Community envoy Dennis Corboy Tuesday.
According to the National Assembly press services–in the meeting Ararktsian stressed the importance of EC’s involvement in rebuilding Armenia.
Corboy assured that a mutually advantageous partnership with Armenia will be encouraged by the European Community. He particularly noted that the EC is going to implement development and reconstruction programs in Karabakh–which will serve as a serious stimulus for the activation of mutual contacts and dialogue in the conflict zone and restoration of trust among the parties to the conflict.
Having approved of the idea to run such programs–Ararktsian informed the guest of the current state of the negotiating process and possible prospects of the conflict settlement.
The speaker noted that peaceful talks are the only way to settle the conflict.
According to Ararktsian–a political platform to settle all problems peacefully is necessary.
He stressed the importance of direct contacts between the sides and restoration of trust. The negotiating process–according to him–should not be put into temporary frames.
The EC envoy fully agreed with Armenia’s Parliament Speaker and noted that the European Community supports direct talks between the Karabakh and Azeri leaders.
He noted that international experience shows that only negotiations based on direct bilateral contacts can lead to a final solution.
