ISTANBUL (Marmara)–According to an extensive report in England’s widely circulated Observer newspaper this past weekend–the illegal drug market in England is virtually in the hands of Turks.
The newspaper also added that Turkish drug traffickers in England have strong ties with well-known Turkish governmental figures.
According to the report–England–due to the large quantities of smuggled drugs by Turks–has become a haven for drug addicts who can purchase supplies for cheap rates.
The Observer further reported that it is a well-known fact among Turkish residents of London that the crime rate in the city is largely due to the struggle between Turkish drug lords and gangs. Many of the drug related crimes are often left unsolved.
The report also said that the Turkish drug lords in London tend to use the same methods as Columbian drug mobs.
Two Turks–Nuzhat Telliagoglu and Muslim Simsec were named as drug traffickers who are now serving sentences in related charges. According to English authorities–the drug market could be controlled–if the Turkish government cooperated-something–according to the Observer–which has yet to occur.
Turkey has long been viewed as a crossroads for drug trafficking–although official Ankara has always denied any connection to that business.
International agencies have also singled out Turkey as a major mecca for drug traffickers.
