YEREVAN (RFE/RL)–Over the past three years–beginning in 1996–the Ministry of the Economy has drafted a program of nation-wide measures for protecting the Armenian environment.
That program–to which 45 Armenian and 15 foreign experts contributed–has been funded by a $200,000 grant from the World Bank.
The program comprises measures to be implemented in four stages over a period of 15 years–and will require investmen’s totaling $48 million.
According to one of the directors of the project–O. Kirakosian–the economic effect of implementing the project–in addition to the ecological benefit–will be approximately $800 million.
