YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"A solution to the Karabakh conflict should have compromise on both sides," US special envoy for NIS Steve Sestanovich said at a news conference Monday.
Deputy Defense Minister L.Warren led a US delegation that arrived in Armenia on Saturday. According to Sestanovich–only a solution which is agreed upon by all sides can guarantee and ensure security.
He noted that the aim of the OSCE co-chairmen is to find points to serve as a base for direct negotiations.
The envoy refrained from telling the OSCE Minsk group co-chairmen’s position in the matter of conducting Karabakh-Azeri direct talks.
According to Sestanovich–"a very interesting meeting" took place with Levon Ter-Petrosyan–Prime Minister Robert Kocharian–Foreign Minister Alexander Arzoumanian–other members of the cabinet–as well as opposition representatives–Monday.
Special attention was paid–according to Sestanovich–to bilateral relations–as well as regional cooperation.
The envoy noted that Armenia is the seventh country visited by this delegation. It is also planned to visit countries of Middle Asia.
