ISTANBUL–The European Parliament Tuesday–discussed ways of including Turkish responsibility for the Armenian Genocide in a report due to be presented by the body’s international relations committee.
The Anatolia news agency reported Tuesday that five French socialist party members are urging an amendment to the report–which clearly states that the June 18–1987 Europarliament decision urging a political resolution to the Armenian Genocide–be included in the international relations committee report.
Furthermore–German’social-democratic party member Andre Brie and French communist party member Francis Vorts reiterated the need for a political resolution of the Armenian Questions–and criticized Turkey for imposing a blockade of Armenia. In another resolution–Brie and Vorts called on Turkey to recognize the Armenian Genocide.
A group of Green Party representatives from the Netherlands–France and Germany called into question the Ottoman Empire responsibility in the Armenian Genocide and urged a recognition of that issue.
The Green Party coalition also issued another resolution urging for a open discussion and decision by the Turkish parliament on the Genocide issue–and called for a recognition of the Genocide by the Turkish legislature.
It is evident that the focus on the Genocide issue begun in the US due to the pending Genocide resolution in Congress–has had its rippling effects in European circles–as well.
