It is the tenth anniversary of the Karabakh liberation struggle. A struggle–which has become the force to unite the Armenian nation; a struggle–owing to which occupied historic Armenian lands were liberated–and owing to which the 150,000 Armenia’s of Karabakh gained its independence–creating the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.
The battle has been won. The enemy–however–in an attempt to seek revenge–to disrupt the peace in Karabakh and to reoccupy Armenian territories–has–with backing from Turkey–turned to international forums and intends to reach its goals with support from superpower allies.
The situation has reached a crisis for all Armenia’s. From Lisbon to Copenhagen–it is being tried to give up Karabakh–which has been liberated with the holy blood of its martyrs. Bargainging is being conduct at cost of the Armenian nation–but heroic Karabakh and its intelligent government–as well as its brave people continue to adamantly fight against such anti-Armenian activities. Karabakh continues to fight against such activities–with the support of united and independent Armenia–seeking to unite the Armenia’s of Armenia–the Diaspora and Karabakh–with complete and unwavering commitment.
The eruptions of February of 1921 repeated themselves in 1988. 67 years-long oppression was not able to silence the Armenian nation’s yearning for freedom. The Armenian people were the first to raise the flag of insurrection against the Soviet Union–and in 1988 our yearning for a united nation and freedom led us to create another Sardarabad.
So–dear compatriots–based on these principles and to mark–with pride–the tenth anniversary of the Karabakh liberation struggle–within the greater Los Angeles area–the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Central Committee of Western United States–has created a special committee–which will organize a number of community-wide events in February of 1998.
Therefore–we call on all Armenia’s–especially our community–educational–church and cultural organizations to support the Karabakh Cause with their active participation–in order to honor the sacrifices of our heroes–and to become united in the face of today’s political turmoil surrounding the issue. Armenian Revolutioanry Federation Central Committee–Western United States
