YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A delegation lead by Minister of Foreign Affairs Vartan Oskanian left for Paris to participate in the 31st session of the UNESCO General Conference on Monday. Vahram Kazhoyan–the chief of the MFA department on international organizations–and Varduhi Asaturyan–the General Secretary of the National Commission for UNESCO Affairs–are members of the delegation.
According to the MFA Public Relations Department–the discussion and adoption of the "Realization of the UNESCO’s conventions and other international treaties directed at the keeping of cultural heritage" resolution presented by the Armenian delegates and stimulating inter-regional cooperation–will be discussed at the session.
Elections of the UNESCO Committee on the World Heritage–for which Armenia has nominated its candidate–are to take place at the session.
The Minister is expected to meet with Koichiro Matsuura–the UNESCO Director General–during the visit. Oskanian will return to Armenia on Wednesday–but Varduhi Asaturyan will stay until the session ends on November 3.
