GLENDALE–Former Mayor and City Councilmember Ginger Bremberg passed away Friday.
Bremberg served as Mayor for four separate terms on the City Council including 1981-85; 1985-89; 1989-93 and 1997-01. She also served four terms as a Mayor including 1983-84; 1987-88; 1991-92 and 1999-00.
She was very influential in creating and establishing recycling and waste management policies not only in Glendale, but also throughout the State of California.
In 1985 former Governor George Deukmejian appointed her to serve on the California Waste Management Board. Brember also served as Vice President of the Los Angeles County Task Force on Integrated Waste Management from 1992 until she retired from office in 2001. The City’s Integrated Waste Management Facility was dedicated in her honor in January 2006.
"Ginger Bremberg gave many years of dedicated service to the City of Glendale," Mayor Ara Najarian stated. "She was always a strong advocate for preserving open space; sensitive hillside development standards; maintaining a high quality of life in our neighborhoods; and for open and responsive government. She will be long remembered for her contributions to the Glendale community in her personal and public endeavors. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this time."
City flags will be flown at half-staff in her memory for the next few days.
