YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The former prime minister of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic Zhirair Poghossian is a defendant in two cases instituted by the Karabakh Prosecutor’s Office.
One of the cases is criminal. The investigation into the case has already been completed. Two charges were brought against Poghossian on Count 132 (illegal acquisition and possession of guns)–and Count 71–point 1–(losing a document containing state secrets). The second case is civil.
The legal proceedings on the civil case were held on August 23 at the Stepanakert Town Court. The court satisfied the claim filed by the Karabakh Prosecutor General. Poghossian intends to protect his rights before the Civil Judicial Board of the Karabakh Supreme Court with the help of his counsel for the defense Tigran Sahakian–who will also defend Poghossian in the criminal case. The Karabakh Supreme Court is supposed to consider the appeal on September 16.
Responding a question concerning political grounds in the case–Sahakian said–"As counsel for the defense I can’t answer this question–but I may answer it after the investigation is completed."
