YEREVAN—Armenia’s former prime minister, Tigran Sargsyan, is poised to become Armenia’s Ambassador to the United States, sources told Yerkir.am, which reported the news on Wednesday.
According to Yerkir, on the same day that the appointment of Hovik Abrahamian as the new prime minister was announced, Sargsyan’s new role was also revealed.
Sources also revealed that an application for Sargsyan’s appointment has been submitted for review by the US. Armenia’s Foreign Ministry, however, stated that ambassadorial appointments are made through presidential decrees.
Sargsyan resigned his position as prime minister in early April, saying that he had informed the president of his intentions but was asked to stay on to manage the application to the Constitutional Court of Armenia’s controversial pension reform plan.
In other diplomatic news, Armenia’s former ambassador to the United Nations, Karen Nazaryan was named Deputy Foreign Minister, while Armenia’s Ambassador to the UK Armen Sarkisian will add the representation of Ireland to his portfolio.
I hope we will invest his fortune in Armenia, before coming to US soil!
Greeeeeeeat… Remove the crook from office, install him into another office. Then we wonder why we’re in such a mess: our entire country is run and represented by crooks at home and abroad.
“…our counrty is run by crooks at home and abroad.”
Hey “Armenian” now we can call ourselves globalized.
Tigran ….. what a joke!
Most politicians these days are crooks, not only in Armenia but in EU, US, and the list goes on, Don’t be so harsh on Armenian politicians
Incredibly poor choice! As an ambassador, we need an educated, honest person with an excellent command of (English) language. Overall, this recent trend of appointing businessmen to diplomatic positions is ill-conceived.
So a millionaire is coming to the US ? He’s not as rich as Serj’s brother I think!
There are always two sides to any story. Corruption is no good if we are not in it..
They may be crooks, but they have done their best. It is not easy to dance to Russian and US tunes at the same time.
If we play the right music, we can make a snake dance to our tune.
Let us support our politicians and not let foreign influences blind our judgments. They have difficult jobs.
