YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"Women’s role in French cinema" is the motto of the festival of French films to be held in Yerevan December 4-11. Women in starring roles or the female actors’ exemplary performances will be emphasized in the films to be demonstrated at the festival–Cultural Attach of the French Embassy in Armenia–Rene Meldonian told a news conference December 1.
Eight films will be demonstrated at the festival–the oldest of them being Jacques Bekker’s "Golden Hat" with Simon Signore and Serge Regian. The film was shot in 1952. Rene Clair’s "Big maneuvers" and Rene Cleman’s "Jervez" were also shot in the 1950s. And Robert Gedigian’s "Marius and Janette" was shot in 1997. Meldonian said that the Embassy wished to bring to Yerevan films shot in recent years–but it involved great expenses. She promised that recent films would be demonstrated at the festival next year.
