BAKU (APA)—The French co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group mediating the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is expected to be replaced soon, the Azeri Press Agency reported on Monday, quoting unnamed French diplomatic sources.
According to APA, the French ambassador to Armenia Serzh Smessov’s is expected to fill the post, currently occupied by Bernard Fassier. Smessov’s candidacy for the spot, however, remains unconfirmed.
The news comes after the replacement of the US, and Russian diplomats co-chairing the mediating troika. Moscow last month appointed its new negotiator, Igor Popov, to replace Yuri Merzlyakov, while Washington late last year replaced its co-chair, Matthew Bryza, with Robert Bradke.
