FRESNO–Armon Darmanian was born to Yervant and Prapion Mamigonian on June 10, 1930 in Sanger, California. She graduated from Sanger High School and attended Reedley College. In 1949, she was married to Richard Darmanian, a childhood friend. The marriage resulted in six children and seven grandchildren. Armon passed away on March 18, 2009.
While Armon was growing up, her desire was to become a registered nurse. However, the program did not allow for married students, so Armon went to work so Richard could complete his education. In 1959, Armon and Richard bought a small farm in the Lone Star/Sunnyside area, where they built a home, raised their family, and entertained friends and relatives. Armon was a very loving and generous person. Her life revolved around her husband, children, and grandchildren. She was happiest when surrounded by people and when she could help others. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Armenian Church and its two aid organizations, the Trinity Guild and the Ladies’ Aid. She was also a member of the Armenian Relief Society, Sophia Chapter, as well as the Mother Chapter. She was an active member of the California Armenian Home Guild, helping in every way with her pleasant presence.
For more than 30 years, she was a member of the Fresno Community Hospital volunteer group, the Service Alliance. She served as coordinator of the hospital’s surgery waiting room.
Armon was preceded in death by her husband Richard of 59 years; parents, Yervant and Prapion Mamigonian; younger brother, Dr. Gary Mamigonian. She is survived by her son, Aram and June Darmanian of Los Altos; daughter, Charlotte Darmanian; daughter, Margaret and Keith Wild; daughter, Christine Darmanian; daughter, Suzanne and Doug Smith; daughter, Marian and Dennis Wajckus. She is also survived by grandchildren, Justine and Leslie Darmanian; Kevin and Julie Wild; Michelle, Andrea, and Alyssa Smith; brothers, Missak and Abby Mamigonian; sister-in-law, Carolyn Mamigonian; and many nieces and nephews.
