YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–World Jr. Champion Gabriel Sargssian continued his brilliant performance in the European Chess Jr. Championship. In the fourth round on Tuesday he continued his series of victories by beating Milen Vasilev of Bulgaria.
There are eight chess-players who have earned three points–including Levon Aronyan and Andranik Matikozian of Armenia who drew in their fourth round game–Mikhail Mchedlishvili and Varouzhan Hakobian–Alexey Ilyushin to whom lost Artur Chibukhchian–and Alexander Motilyov. Chibukhchian and three other chess-players have 2.5 points each.
On September 9–the central game of the fifth round will be Sargssian vs. Aronyan.
In the fourth round of the girl’s competition–Sofiko Tghesheshalshvili drew with Helen Miloradovic and lost her first half a point; however–she is still in the lead. She is followed by Johanna Dvorakovska–Rusudan Goletsiani–Yovanka Hoska–Helen Miloradovic and Leila Javakhishvili who have three points.
The best result among the Armenian female chess-players belongs to Lilit Mkrtchian and Narineh Gasparian with 2.5 points each. Elina Danielian–who suffered a setback in the first round–won her next two games–however–in the fourth round she lost again and now has two points.
