GLENDALE—Six months have passed since Gakavig Children’s Magazine began publishing. Six months which have been filled with excitement, good wishes, cheering, encouraging and discouraging surprises, as well as occasional disappointments and sadness! Soon, Gakavig Vol 5, an enhanced and more attractive version of the magazine will be available to the public.
Needless to say, in current economic conditions the publication of a magazine with an audience that comprises the youngest members of our community has not been an easy task. Gakavig Children’s Magazine is the first children’s magazine in the United States, therefore, it is an untried and unknown reality. Nevertheless, through it all “Gakavig” has been able to enhance and improve its visual appearance and contents.
Living this experience undoubtedly has brought such an indescribable, irreplaceable and incomparable pleasure and contentment, which in time has turned into a sacred sense of duty and a day-to-day obligation and responsibility.
During the last six months “Gakavig Children’s Publication” has not only published its magazines, it has also visited schools, organizations, camps and has interconnected with children through storytelling programs and puppet shows. Among the publication’s primary objectives has been the presentation of the magnificence and uniqueness of the jewels of Armenian traditional literature as well as international well known children’s authors to today’s Armenian children in both Western and Eastern Armenian dialects.
The course Gakavig has accomplished during the last six months has not only been praised by its primary audience and critics, the children, but also educators and teachers. It has also gained the support and encouragement of the community’s activists and benefactors without whose generosity this journey would have been impossible.
Therefore, with this open letter “Gakavig Children’s Publication,” through its founder-editor Juliette Davtian extends its sincere gratitude and appreciation to all who have shown their moral and financial support and have diligently stood by “Gakavig”.
It is impossible not to highlight the extent of encouragement and kindhearted support Gakaivg’s Godmother, Haigoush Kohler has displayed toward this effort. With all sincerity and openness it can be said that this publication could not have continued and sustain its existence without Kohler’s genuine camaraderie.
