YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The Center of Medical Genetics opened in Yerevan this week. The diagnostic center uses the most up-to-date techniques and equipment purchased with gran’s from the Calouste Gulbenkian Fund. The reconstruction of the building in which the center is housed was sponsored by a French benefactor represented by "Healthy Generations" Board of Trustees chairman David Mantashian.
Director of the Center–Doctor of Biology Tamara Sargssian outlined the Center’s main activities: diagnostics of possible chromosomal pathologies–genetic diagnostics of periodical disease–diagnostics of oncological diseases at their latent stages–diagnostics of genital infections–genetic diagnostics of arthritis–and children’s psychoneuropathological diseases.
No other medical establishment in Armenia will be using the Center’s methods. Thus–the methods applied in the diagnostics of oncological diseases allow possible complications to be foreseen during remissions long before the next outbreak of the disease. Results of some examinations will be received only 13 minutes after the patient’s blood is drawn.
Before the opening of the Center–its specialists conducted an extensive examination of both patients (1,500) and healthy people (650) on periodical diseases.
The methods of diagnosing chromosomal pathologies allow all the pathologies of chromosomes to be revealed. These methods are mostly used at the Center for diagnosing chromosomal pathologies which cause miscarriages–sterility–stillbirths–pathologies in sexual functions of men and women. These methods are particularly important in prenatal diagnostics which allow possible pathologies of the fetus to be revealed.
Almost all the specialists of the Center took vocational training courses at leading medical centers in France–Great Britain–Switzerland–and at the Medical Genetic Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Sargssian said that the Center is willing to cooperate with all medical establishmen’s in Armenia and do all in its power to preserve the people’s health.
