YEREVAN (Public Radio of Armenia) — The co-founders of 100 LIVES and the Aurora Prize Selection committee – co-chaired by Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel and Academy Award-winning actor and humanitarian George Clooney – will honor the Aurora Prize finalists for their exceptional acts of humanity with a weekend of events in Armenia from April 22 through April 24, 2016.
On behalf of the survivors of the Armenian Genocide, and in gratitude to their saviors, the Aurora Prize celebrates the strength of the human spirit that compels action is the face of adversity.
The weekend of events, hosted in Yerevan, Armenia, will encourage discussion of some of the most pressing humanitarian issues the world is facing today, and honor those helping to address them. The weekend’s events will culminate in the inaugural Aurora Prize ceremony, honoring three finalists for their exceptional acts of humanity and presenting the final recipient with the award.

Clooney is always welcomed in Armenia
Keeping true to Clooney’s human rights platform, I really hope he visits the Syrian and Yazidi refugees who are now living in Armenia. Whoever is pushing this trip and visit lets not make it ALL about genocide recognition, Armenia is much more than that.
100 years ago the Armenians got caught up in a world war. Russia became an ally of France and Britain and Armenia got caught between Russia and the Ottoman Empire, which until this time had maintained a secular statehood. The German Kaiser, pretending to adopt Moslem sympathies, encouraged Turkey into a religious war (with Russia primarily) and Armenia as a Christian state suffered genocide. The western Allies would not call it that at the time, but it was.
Thank you George Clooney and Amal Clooney for your amazing work to shed light on the Armenian genocide, the first of the 20th century, in which my relatives died and only a few escaped. Let us not forget that Hitler fashioned his plan after the Armenian genocide and said” Who today remembers the Armenians.”
