TBILISI (Armenpress/Kavkasia-Press)–The London-based Sunday Times reported on January 12 about a special camp in Georgia’s volatile Pankisi Gorge in which terrorists are being trained to prepare deadly poisons.
The article reveals that members of an Algerian group arrested in London on charges of producing chemical weapons have been trained at this camp. It also asserts that after fleeing Afghanistan–members of the Al-Qaeda terrorist organization set up camps in the Pankisi area where militants recently arrested in Britain and France were also trained.
Georgian special services are cooperating with British counterparts. The head of the Public Relations Bureau of the Georgian Ministry of State Security Nika Laliashvili–told Kavkasia-Press. "We are expecting to receive from London the names of the arrested individuals in order to look into the issue and find out to what extent they are linked to the training camp in Pankisi." Pointing to the intensity of the training–Laliashvili said that the terrorists were even provided with Internet service.
A spokesman for the ministry also said that the ministry was waiting for similar information from France where Afghan terrorists–who could have also been trained in Pankisi–were arrested recently.
