TBILISI—The President of Georgia, Giorgi Margvelashvili, will not visit Armenia to commemorate the centenary of the Armenian Genocide, Russia’s Interfax reports.
Interfax quoted Tengiz Pkhaladze, an aide to Margvelashvili, as saying that Georgia had informed Armenian authorities through diplomatic channels that president Margvelashvili will not be able to come to Armenia on April 23 and 24 because he will be meeting with Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko who will be visiting Georgia on the same days with an official visit.
The Georgian government did not confirm earlier reports that Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili will be present in Armenia for the centennial.
Last week, Georgia’s parliament declined a motion to consider the recognition of the Armenian Genocide.
Independent experts say Georgia is reluctant to recognize the massacres of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire as genocide for fear of disturbing its good relations with neighboring Turkey and Azerbaijan, its key economic partners.
Cool. And on April 25, 2015 Armenia should join Russia to recognize Abkhazia and South Ossetia as two sovereign nations. Next on the agenda: the freedom of Javakhk.
Really? Couldn’t Putin ask Lukashenko to delay his visit. And doesn’t this indirectly mean that Lukashenko will not attend as well. With friends like these, who needs enemies?
And to think, we have Russophiles ready to point their fingers at the US and Europe at every chance.
The laughable part of this is that Belarus is our partner in the EEU…….
Big mistake, Georgia
The Syrians once believed that Turkey was their most important trading partner and best friend in the region. Ask the Syrians now what they think of Turkey. The Georgians will get it soon when Turks bite them.. it is a matter of time.
Shame on Georgia. Intimidated by the Turks.
If I were Georgia, I wouldn’t worry about those two countries. The Azeris have have NO other option for their pipeline.
You won’t mind then when we support Russia when they kick the living daylights out of you when you get out of line.
Shame on Georgians! They haven’t been much better than Turks throughout history.
We are taking note on who is our friend and who is not, what goes around comes around, it will arrive the day when these ass holes will need help, then will be the pay back time.
Cowards ! The world is walking away from the Turks and Georgia is kissing there ass!
Georgians are thinking about the Azeri oil pipeline going through their land.
