YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan/Caucasus Press)–The Armenian Ambassador to Georgia–Levon Khachatrian–said at a news conference in Tbilisi that he often visited the Armenian populated area of Samtskhe-Javakhk.
"I observed no separatist sentimen’s in Samtskhe-Javakhetia. Such sentimen’s can’t exist–as Armenia will never support them. Armenia may show interest in their social problems–but she is not going to interfere with their political issues. This is Georgia’s prerogative," Khachatrian said.
Khachatrian said that he considers the problem of regional economic integration between Armenia–Georgia and Azerbaijan to be of paramount importance.
According to Caucasus-Press–Khachatrian was concerned over recent publications in the Georgian press–which–in his opinion–were lies which were biased and insulting to Armenia.
"I wish such publications had never appeared as dynamic relations have been recently established between our two neighboring states," he said. He also stated that Georgian President Edward Shevardnadze is scheduled to visit Yerevan on April 29-30 to discuss ways of hastening the integration processes between the two countries.
Khachatrian dismissed the Russian arms supplies to Armenia by saying no one gives arms to anybody without indemnity. He noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia once made public the data regarding the number and types of arms supplied to Azerbaijan by Russia and Ukraine. The Ambassador would not go into detail–saying that an inquiry was being held on the given facts.
