YEREVAN (PanARMENIAN.Net/Noyan Tapan)– The government of Baku recently announced an official decision to conduct an international search for Mountainous Karabagh Republic (MKR) president Arkady Ghoukassian through Interpol. The maneuver of official Baku to institute criminal proceedings against Ghoukassian–and its subsequent appeal to international sources–reveals the atmosphere of confusion prevailing in Azerbaijan– resulting from increased participation of MKR’s political leadership in the international arena.
As reported by "De Facto" agency–Ghoukassian spoke to journalists on the matter today. "It is not routine," he said–"for the leadership of MKR to visit France and the US–countries of OSCE Minsk group ambassadors where the position of Armenian communities has traditionally been strong; this therefore served as an occasion for Baku’s latest diplomatic protest."
He revealed that Baku did not conceal the fact that Azeri diplomatic representations in those countries attentively followed the trip. "It appears that the information received from them on the attitudes of citizens–Armenian and non Armenian–of these two leading countries of the world toward MKR–as well as the moral and material support rendered to MKR by the influential Armenian communities of US and France spread real panic among the Azeri political establishment," stated Ghoukassian.
He emphasized that the OSCE and other international organizations are unhappy with the latest irrational but mostly extreme step that Baku has taken–and said that this action could only provoke negative tendencies in the process of the MKR conflict resolution settlement–which is difficult as it is.
"Today it is clear for everybody–including the authorities of Baku–that the democracy level in MKR and its conformity to European standards is much higher than in Azerbaijan," Ghoukassian concluded.
