STEPANAKERT (Noyan Tapan)–Nagorno Karabakh President Arkady Ghoukassian will nominate himself for the presidential post at the August 11 elections. This was announced by the Nagorno Karabakh president on June 24 during his meeting with members of the Central Council and the deputy faction of the "Democratic Artsakh" Union (DAU)–a Parliament majority at the Nagorno Karabakh National Assembly.
DAU Cochairman Ashot Ghulian said that during recent conferences of DAU in provinces the overwhelming majority of participants came to the conclusion that Arkady Ghoukassian must nominate himself at the upcoming elections–since the policy he carries out has not been fully realized. Therefore–they think that the current president has no moral right to quit.
"Power is not an end in itself for me. I think I ought to bring the program of the country’s development supported by the public five years ago to its logical conclusion," said Ghoukassian.
Ghoukassian admitted some shortcomings and omissions during his tenure but said he had learned a lot to be able to rectify the mistakes in case of re-election.
