STEPANAKERT (Noyan Tapan)–"I believe that all problems will be resolved in the near future," Karabakh President Arkady Ghoukassian said on a Radio Liberty interview. "The idea to combine the posts of president and prime minister was not mine but of prominent government figures who suggested that I take the responsibilities of the prime minister in addition to my duties–and I accepted the idea. However–since the National Assembly rejected the suggested amendment to the law–I will appoint a new prime minister within the next two to three days," he explained.
According to Ghoukassian–there is more than one candidate for the position of prime minister and that Defense Minister Samvel Babayan is one of those candidates. "The matter is being discussed with all top government officials–and mostly I discuss it with Babayan," said Ghoukassian.
The president disputed rumors about differences between government members. "I do not have personal problems with neither Samvel Babayan nor any other government official."
