On Sunday, December 19, 2010, over 100 local families stopped by the K&M Glendale Youth Center to obtain food donations for the holiday season. Organized by the Armenian National Committee of Glendale in partnership with the Karamanoukian Glendale Youth Center and the Glendale Chapters of the ACFJ, ARS, AYF, Hamazkayin and Salvation Army, the food drive was the first of its kind hosted through the center, bringing the community together to help those in need.
“We had a fantastic response from community members, schools, organizations and local businesses, which allowed us to collect over 10,000 food items,” stated Elen Asatryan, Executive Director of ANC Glendale. “On behalf of ANC Glendale we thank all our partners as well as Captain Rio Ray and Mr. Rick White from the Salvation Army for all their support. We wouldn’t be able to have such a successful drive and distribution day without them,” added Asatryan.
Each family received over 45 food items ranging from canned vegetables and
fruits to pastas, soups, oils, cereals, breads, sweets and other items. Foods were distributed to families residing in the city of Glendale as well as members of veteran associations. The center will continue to distribute food items throughout the week all the way to Christmas Day.
