YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Gohar Haroutiunian–19–(Miss Armenia ’98) won the first "Miss CIS" Beauty Contest held in Moscow last Thursday. Another participant from Armenia–Karine Khachatrian (Miss Armenia ’96) was given the title of "Miss the Press," the art director of the Yerevan Chamber Theater–Ara Yernjakian told a press conference Monday.
He went on to explain that all of the three Armenian pageant participants would have reached the finals "had the contest been less politicized."
Gohar Haroutiunian said she’s been given an opportunity to study at any university in any country: However–she said–she has not yet decided where to study–but–she is likely to choose one of the European institutions.
At present–Haroutiunian is a third-year student at the Yerevan State Teachers’ Training Institute (department of painting). She plans on allocating a portion of the financial award she received at the Miss CIS pageant in Moscow to charity.
A portion of the sum–according to the contract–will be donated to the steering committee of the "Miss Armenia" Beauty Contest. Under the contract–the winners of the contest are not to appear in video clips without the committee’s permission.
Haroutiunian will participate in the Miss Europe Contest to be held in Beirut this May.
It was also announced that the Chamber Theater was going to hold beauty contests monthly to elect the beauty of each month of the year. The 12 beauties will represent Yerevan at the annual Miss Armenia Contest.
