FRESNO–Thursday–January 13–at 11 am–a ground breaking ceremony for the Kesana Setrakian building and youth center took place–under the auspices of Prelate Bishop Mooshegh Mardirossian–with the participation of Holy Martyrs’ Church Rev. Razmig Khatchadourian.
Present at the ceremony were Fresno’s mayor Jim Patterson–City Council members–and other officials along with the principal of Fresno’s Armenian school–Seth Atamian–students of the 6th and 7th grade and church members.
"During the last 100 years–the church has been a pillar of our community" said Levon Baljanian. City Council member Dan Ronkio in his speech said–"It is with this spirit that the center must be rebuilt."
Prior to the groundbreaking ceremony–the Prelate praised God and the pastor of the Armenian church–the Board of Trustees and the church’s members–Mardirossian remarked
"Today is a great day for this church and its members who for the last one hundred years have kept their faith and their Armenian identity strong," the Prelate added.
Following the ceremony–a hundred balloons were released into the air which signified the church’s 100th anniversary. After the ceremony those present had lunch hosted by the church’s Ladies Guild.
