YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The formation of a commission to devise amendmen’s to the Constitution is likely to begin next week–presidential advisor Baruyr Hairikian told Noyan Tapan.
Hairikian reported that the number of commission members has yet to be decided. He said he felt the composition of the commission must be limited–but discussions should be open for everybody–public discussion should precede a referendum. "Professionals will be doing the work as consistently and thoroughly as possible. And–we’ll be guided the practical understanding of human rights," said Hairikian.
He said the opinion of the authors of the current Constitution should be taken into consideration–and that it is up to the president to decide whether they will be involved in the commission or not.
The presidential advisor said that the position of the commission would be mostly predetermined by the president’s pre-election statemen’s–which will play the role of a reference-point.
Hairikian is likely to lead the commission.
