YEREVAN (Combined Sources)–On Monday–December 30–a public requiem service for the Head of Armenia’s TV and Radio Board Dikran Naghdalian was performed at the Moscow Theater in Yerevan. Naghdalian was brutally murdered by an unknown assassin two days earlier–on December 28–on the doorsteps of his parents’ home. The 36-year old journalist died shortly after being rushed to hospital.
Thousands–including former colleagues–intellectuals as well as ordinary citizens gathered at the Moscow Theater to pay their last respects to Dikran Naghdalian. The requiem service was performed by Karekin II–Catholicos of All Armenia’s. The President of Armenia Robert Kocharian and his wife Bella–Prime Minister Antranig Markarian–Chairman of Constitutional Court Gagik Harutunian–Defense Minister and the head of the state funeral commission Serj Sarkisian–the mayor of Yerevan Robert Nazaryan–as well as ministers and parliament members were among those attending.
The burial ceremony took place at the Yerevan City Pantheon. Speaking at the ceremony–Defense Minister Serj Sarkisian stressed that law enforcement agencies around the country will do their utmost to reveal the real motives of the terrorist act. Minister of Culture–Sports and Youth Roland Sharoyan–also spoke calling Naghdalian’s death a tremendous loss of an intellectual Armenian mind.
According to the France Presse news agency–three suspects–one of them with an unlicensed gun–have already been arrested. The identities of the suspects are still unknown–however.
According to various sources–law enforcement authorities are presently conducting the investigation by searching the homes of possible suspects in order to find the crime weapon.
