His Holiness Catholicos Aram I was invited to meet with the Emir of Kuwait–Prince Jaber Al Ahmad Al Subah on November 28–but due to the Emir’s health condition–his deputy–Sheikh Naser Mohammed Al Soubah welcomed the Catholicos and his delegation to the Prince’s palace.
His Holiness is in Kuwait for a Pontifical visit to the Armenian community there.
His Holiness praised the Prince as well as the Kuwaiti government and people for their warm relations with the local Armenian community and their continued support through liberties given to the Armenian Church and schools.
He called to the Prince’s attention the desire to construct a new Armenian church there–which first requires that the Kuwaiti government donate the land. They also discussed the issuance of residence and work permits to prospective Armenian school teachers. The Prince’s deputy responsed positively to both proposals.
The two then discussed various issues related to Lebanon–Kuwait–the Armenian people–and Christian-Muslim dialogue.The deputy spoke with great respect about the Armenian community of Kuwait and the Armenian nation in general.
The Armenian Church delegation included Catholicosal Vicar of the Diocese of Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates–Archbishop Gorun Babian–Rev. Fr. Housig Mardirosian–Rev. Ardag Keheian–Hovsep Ohannesian and Haroutioun Ayvazian on behalf of the National Authorities–Melik Meliksetian and Alexan Berberian.
