YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Famous historian–writer–commentator–activist and professor–Bagrat Ulubabian passed away in Yerevan on Monday.
Bagrat Ulubabian’s funeral ceremony will take place on Wednesday at the National Academy building and his body will eternally rest at the Yerevan Pantheon.
Born in 1925–in the Mushapat village in the Martuni region of Nagorno-Karabakh–Ulubabian received a local secondary education–after which he graduated from the Baku Pedagogical Institute. From 1949 to 1967 Ulubabian led the Karabakh regional department of the Writers’ Union–was an editor for the Soviet Karabakh newspaper–after which–in 1968–he moved to Yerevan.
Bagrat Ulubabian wrote several poems–short stories and novels. His contributions are great in the historical field. For more than 40 years Ulubabian investigated issues of Armenian history. With works like "The History of Artsakh from Ancient Times to 10th Century,"Khachen’ Rule in 10-16th Centuries,"The Chronicle of Artsakhian Struggle for Survival," Golden Chain," Bagrat Ulubabian greatly contributed to the development of Armenian History as well to the historical rectification of Karabakh as a true Armenian territory.
For his excellent contributions in History–Ulubabian was awarded a myriad of State medals from Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh as well as numerous certificates from the National Academy of Sciences and the Writers’ Union of Armenia.
