MONTEBELLO–The Holy Cross Cathedral will celebrate its eighty years of service to the Los Angeles Armenian-American community at a gala banquet on November 1–under the auspices of our Prelate–His Eminence Archbishop Moushegh Mardirossian.
To mark the historic occasion–a special candle-lighting ceremony will take place during the event at the Church’s Bagramian Hall. A minimum donation of $500 is requested for sponsorship of the candle lighting.
Following the dinner banquet on November 2–the Prelate will celebrate Holy Mass–and conduct requiem service in memory of the past benefactors and members.
The venerable church has served as a haven for many immigran’s and their families who came to the US seeking freedom–and an enduring connection to their spiritual heritage.
Founded 80 years ago on 20th Street–in the heart of the then Armenian-populated district–in what is now downtown Los Angeles–Holy Cross served as the spiritual anchor for the Armenia’s who at the time were slowly gathering in Southern California.
Today–the Church–which was rebuilt in the 1980’s in the City of Montebello and recognized as a Cathedral–is still the spiritual home for thousands of Armenian-Americans.
Details of the banquet will be provided in upcoming weeks–as the clergy and the Board of Trustees plan the event through a special Celebration Committee composed of affiliated bodies and other volunteer parishioners.
Banquet tickets have been set at $100 per person. Reservations will be provided on a first-come–first-served basis.
