The Armenian American Theatrical and Musical Society will present a rare musical program on September 28, 2007, at 7:00 pm, in the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, 300 E. Green Street. A highly entertaining program will feature internationally acclaimed musician, Jivan Gasparyan, known as the “foremost living Deduce virtuoso.” The Duduk is one of the world’s oldest wind instrumen’s dating back to 1200 B.C. during Armenians pre-Christian period. It is related to the oboe family, and while capable of only one octave, it is very difficult to play, but produces a magnificent mellow haunting sound.
The spectacular event will enchant the audience as they see and hear Gasparyan’s brilliant musical artistry. The program includes nearly 350 artists in significant performances honoring 80 years of Jivan Gasparyan’s illustrious career. His soundtracks have been used in more than two dozen films, such as GLADIATOR, LAST PASSION OF CHRIST, ARARAT, etc. In addition, he successfully recorded scores for SYRIANA and THE DA VINCI CODE.
Endowed with a very impressive international following, Jivan Gasparyan is most highly respected in Iran for his contributions to Iranian and Armenian music. The event will present the artistic array of musical notables such as Razmik Mansourian, Flora Martirosian, Merujan Margarian, Artashes Avetian, Nersik Ispirian, Harout Hakobian, Armen Hovhanessian, Krassimir, Daniel Decker, Rima Karapetian, Adis, Anahit Nersisyan. Dancers of the Gevorkian Dance Academy and the Karavan Dance Ensemble will also embellish the stage with their talent.
