YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"Realizing well that even a momentary betrayal of ideals and principles may lead to major complications–the Armenian Revolutionary Federation has always been and will be committed to its principles. Let no one believe that ARF can be defeated," a representative of the Executive Council of ARF in Armenia Vahan Hovanessian said–addressing students and professors of the Yerevan State University on April 6.
He noted that thanks to efforts of the ARF and its pressure many urgent problems have been resolved–including the problem of stripping chairman of the Armenian National Movement Vano Siradeghian of deputy immunity and institution of criminal proceedings against leader of "New Path" party Ashot Bleyan.
"Don’t think that political pressure is futile–we shall continue to struggle for fair resolution of a number of questions," Vahan Hovanessian said. Answering multiple questions of journalists about the forthcoming parliamentary elections–Vahan Hovanessian said that the ARF considered it possible to participate in the elections independently. "The ARF is sure of its strength," he declared.
Asked to comment on the establishment of the "Unity" bloc–Hovanessian said that he positively views this establishment of this bloc–and he believes that by uniting the People’s and Republican parties will be able to achieve greater success. Besides–"the number of strikes in the underbelly area will reduce," Hovanessian said.
Asked whether he believes that Vano Siradeghian will be arrested–Hovanessian noted that it is the court that should issue an arrest warrant–and as to Siradeghian’s whereabouts–Hovanessian said–"We know his address."
Hovanessian paid special attention to the problems of education "inherited from the former regime." He said that soon a fund will be established to help talented student receive proper education.
