YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)– "The ARF hopes that following the upcoming parliamentary elections–the domestic situation of Armenia will improve–but the most important aspect is that the people must have that belief," said Armenian Revolutionary Federation Executive Council of Armenia member Vahan Hovanessian during an appearance at the Armenian Press Club Wednesday.
He also expressed hope that the ARF would become a large force in the new parliament and would be able to affect political developmen’s.
In discussing the elections–Hovanessian said the fact that regional leaders could participate in the elections as candidates and apportionment conducted by the previous Central Electoral Commissions were grave mistakes in the election process.
The ARF leader also warned of efforts to derail the party’s campaign–citing the recent arson at ARF candidate Kim Balayan’s office as an example of forces which "do not want to see the ARF become a strong force in the parliament."
Hovanessian said such attempts will fail and the 1995 parliamentary election scenarios would not repeat themselves.
In response to a question about the ARF’s decision to sue ousted president Levon Ter-Petrosyan–Hovanessian said that "Levon Ter-Petrosyan must learn to be humble when opening his mouth. We are not asking anything more from him–for now."
