YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Head of the Parliamentary Committee for Defense–National Security and Interior Affairs Vahan Hovanessian met with the outgoing Indian ambassador Vidia Bkhushan Soni on August 26.
The sides discussed Armenian-Indian relations and prospects of their development.
Speaking of the recent controversial nuclear tests–Soni said that his country’s economic development corresponds to the level of democracy. He gave an assurance that India’s nuclear programs are of no danger to neighbors. At the same time–the ambassador stressed the importance of Armenian-Indian cooperation within international institutions.
Hovanessian said that Armenia has always regarded India as a factor of peace and stability not only in the East but in the entire world as well. Hovanessian acknowledged India’s role in pacifying radical and terrorist forces.
India is closely following the developmen’s in the South Caucasus and is interested in the establishment of peace and stability in this region–Soni said.
Attaching special importance to boosted economic cooperation–both said there are various spheres of mutual interest. Kocharian is sure of further successful relations with India and more businesslike cooperation in the future.
