RIVERSIDE–The University of California–Riverside–is presenting the UCR Orchestra in concert on June 1 and 2–Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. in the University Theatre.
The program features the well-known "Mysterious Mountain" Symphony by Alan Hovhaness–in honor of the late Armenian-American composer who passed away only last year. Hovhaness was widely mourned at his passing–and his music praised throughout the classical music community. A composer of both orchestral and choral music–Hovhaness was known for the beauty–originality and spirituality of his highly accessible style. The "Mysterious Mountain" Symphony invokes the image of the mountain to convey both peace and spiritual striving.
