YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–In a message addressed to Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepian–the Presidential Human Rights Commission expressed concern over the fact that the criminal case initiated in connection with the October 27 events is being investigated by the Military Procurator’s Office. According to the message–the investigation goes against the statute of Military Procurator’s Office of Armenia as outlined in Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Armenia.
The Commission deems that "the Military Procurator’s Office’s investigation of a case outside of their sphere may prove to be an undesirable precedent in our republic and offer an occasion of improper commen’s and speculations."
The Commission asked that the Prosecutor General clarify how the current scenario corresponds to Armenian legislation.
The Presidential Human Rights Commission has already expressed its concern to the President over the fact that military units were searching citizens and their cars in Yerevan and its suburbs in the wake of the October 27 events as well as over the fact that the criminal case initiated in connection with the mentioned events is being administered by the Military Procurator’s Office of Armenia.
