ANTELIAS–A group of Armenian intellectuals assembled in Antelias–Lebanon on August 11 to discuss contemporary educational–cultural–economic–political and other issues within the context of Armenia-diaspora cooperation.
The three-day meetings were organized–and will be held under the patronage of His Holiness Catholicos Aram I.
In delivering the opening remarks–His Holiness stressed: "When we speak about each other from a distance–we are led toward alienation–isolation–and polarization. But when we are together–we advance only toward unity–strength–and progress."
He encouraged considering new approaches and styles to cooperation–while rejecting "traditional–classic–antiquated–and exhausted," ones. "We must rise above thinking locally and approach issues with a pan-Armenian role in mind." He stressed that the diaspora and Armenia have begun to know eachother–and that it is necessary to gradually abandon "romantic patriotism," and embrace a realistic approach to nationalism.
