YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–An international conference dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the devastating earthquake in Spitak will be held in Yerevan on September 15-21 upon the initiative of the National Seismic Protection Service. The conference is expected to be attended by 300 people from 40 countries of the world. These plans were announced by NSPS Director Sergey Balasanian during a press-conference on Tuesday. He also said that the conference will be divided into three parts: political–scientific and applied.
The conference will be held under the auspices of the Armenian government and the United Nations and sponsorship of American University of Armenia. The latter will provide its building for the purpose. The participants in the conference will spend a day at the epicenter of the 1988 earthquake. Rescuers will conduct exercises in Spitak and Giumri.
