YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Nagorno Karabakh President Arkady Ghoukassian received a group of visiting ethnic Armenia’s from Iran on March 31. The delegation included Movses Avetisian–member of the committee for relations with the Armenia’s of Karabakh of the Tehran Diocesan Council of the Armenian Apostolic Church–Edwin Najarian–member of the Board of the Sports Union of the "Ararat" Armenian Cultural Organization of Tehran–and Seda Davtian–editor-in-chief of the Tehran-based Armenian newspaper "Alik."
The guests said the goal of the private visit was to get acquainted with the life in Karabakh and survey prospects for cooperation among the Armenia’s of Iran and Karabakh–in particular–in the fields of sports–culture and information.
The key topic for discussion became the participation of Karabakh athletes in the next pan-Armenian games to be held in Tehran this autumn. The brilliant performance of Karabakh athletes in the last forum aroused great enthusiasm among the entire Armenian community of Iran–the delegation said. The need for more frequent contacts between Karabakh and Iran in the field of sports and culture was stressed.
The sides also addressed the organizing of a Tehran tour for the Vahram Papazian Stepanakert State Drama Theater.
Ghoukassian hailed these programs–which are aimed at boosting athletic and cultural contacts among the Armenia’s of Karabakh and Iran. He placed importance on such ties in the realm of stronger relations between Karabakh–Armenia and Iran vowing assistance on behalf of the Karabakh government.
