TEHRAN (Combined Sources)—Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi said Wednesday that “Iran attaches considerable importance to the development of relations with neighboring, friendly Armenia” after meeting with Armenia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan.

While in Tehran, Kocharyan also met with Iran’s deputy foreign minister for Asia, Oceania and the CIS countries, Seyed Abbas Araghchi.

The sides expressed satisfaction about the progress of bilateral ties and emphasized the importance of reciprocal visits by the presidents and foreign ministers of both countries to Tehran and Yerevan last year.

The side also discussed implementation of joint economic programs, announced an Armenian Foreign Ministry press statement.

Kocharyan was on hand to attend a seminar marking the 20th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Tehran and Yerevan. The seminar was held at Tehran State University.

In his opening remarks Kocharyan greatly praised the bi-lateral relations. Other speakers underscored that the comprehensive cooperation and implementation of joint programs has reached a high level.

A book entitled “Armenia-Iran Relations Turn 20” by Armenian envoy Garnik Badalyan and Khachik Khachen was presented at the event.

The Armenian / Iranian relationship is the greatest Armenian foreign policy success so far. Bravo. We need to improve relations with Georgia. I’m in disbelief of how bad those relations are with Georgia.
