Jerusalem–More than 150 Armenia’s gathered from Jerusalem, Haifa, Yaffa and Petakh Tikva Monday to hold a protest in front of the Israeli Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem organized by the United Armenian Committee of Jerusalem.
The aim of the protest was to condemn Israel’s foreign policy of lobbying to influence the votes of congressmen to convince them to withdraw their support from the Armenian Genocide Resolution Bill and to stop its stance of denial by recognizing the Armenian Genocide.
Present at the protest were former Member of the Parliament and minister Yair Saban and current Knesset member Haim Oron, both longtime friends of the Armenian community in Israel. It is worth mentioning that in March 2007 Oron called upon the Israeli Knesset to discuss the Armenian Genocide issue, which did not get the needed support to be approved. In his speech, Oron promised to lobby the issue again and to do his utmost to call for the recognition of the Armenian Genocide in the Knesseet.
Relegious figures such as Father Atallah of the Greek Orthodox Church and Father Norayr Kazazian of the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem showed their support at the protest, both gave short speeches.
The protest was covered by both foreign and local media.
