YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The "Jewelry 98" exhibit-sale opened in Yerevan Wednesday in honor of the Monday establishment of the Armenian Jewelers’ Union. President Robert Kocharian was present to officiate the ribbon cutting ceremony.
Yerevan Jewelry Factory Director Emil Krikorian said that this is a unique opportunity for Armenian jewelers–who often exhibit their work in the international market–to show their creations in Armenia.
In addition to art work by Armenia’s firms such as the Yerevan Jewelry Factory–Decorative Watches and Watches Company–The Ruby–Adamant–Akuytz–Saphire–jewelry from the Belgian firm Golden Cut and the German Channi Lazzard was also exhibited. Also on display were centuries old traditional Armenian jewelry borrowed from the Armenian state museum.
Prime Minister Armen Darbinian observed that the Armenian jewelry industry has great potential–however necessitates import of raw material and sale of products. He said these issues should be addressed by the newly-formed Jewelers’ Union. Darbinian said one of the goals of the government is to present the Armenian economy to the world. They are not aware of our economic strength–he said. The prime minister stated that Armenia would be a worthwhile foreign investment market.
