PARIS (Armenpress/Noyan Tapan)–President of Mountainous Karabagh Republic (MKR) Arkady Ghoukassian met with France’s new envoy to the OSCE Minsk Group Henry Jacolin–on November 8–to discuss issues relevant to the December visit of the peace brokers to the region. Armenian ambassador to France Edward Nalbandian–was also present at the meeting.
The OSCE Minsk Group is a body mandated by The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) to broker a peace deal between Azerbaijan and Armenian in MKR.
Ghoukassian was in France to participate in a telethon to raise funds for the continuation of several projects in MKR. During a press conference–the president said that he has visited the US and is in France to raise funds for the completion of the North-South Highway. He also discussed MKR’s current economic situation and social conditions–and vision of a conflict resolution. Aside from visiting Paris–Ghoukassian also made a trip to Marseilles–where he met with the community and commended their ardent participation in the fundraising efforts to help the people of Karabagh.
He stressed the symbolic importance of the construction of the North-South Highway–expressing hope that Armenia’s both in Armenia and Russia will once again participate wholeheartedly in the fundraising–especially considering that the Pan-Armenia Fund does not have an official branch in Russia. Ghoukassian noted that during of the $40 million US dollars invested in Karabagh during the past five years–$25 million has come from the Diaspora.
