YEREVAN (Armenpress/Yerkir)–The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Mountainous Karabagh Republic (MKR) released a statement Wednesday deploring Azerbaijani propaganda calling Karabagh an "uncontrolled territory."
In its statement–the foreign ministry says the authorities of MKR bear full responsibility for situation in the country as well as adjacent territories. "This kind of official stance by Azerbaijan is a component of a dangerous political propaganda campaign aimed at discrediting the international reputation of Mountainous Karabagh as a country following the path of democracy and coveting a peaceful solution and compromise."
The ministry also conveys MKR’s readiness to receive any international independent monitoring group and create necessary conditions for their work on MKR territory. "Since 2001–Mountainous Karabagh authorities have consistently asked international organizations such as the UN–PACE–OSCE–as well as US State Department to dispatch independent monitoring groups to Karabagh to assess the real situation. Concurrently–Azeri authorities–realizing that their allegations are groundless–have done everything possible to counter visits of international monitors to Karabagh," and that the allegations are even rejected by many international organizations working in MKR.
The allegations–says the ministry–are simply aimed to hinder a peaceful resolution to the conflict–and are designed to foil efforts of MKR to join the negotiation process–a blatant violation of the OSCE Budapest Summit’s resolution.
The statement also recalls that an annual US State Department report on drug trafficking points to Azerbaijan as a transit route for narcotics trafficking–after the collapse of the "Balkan channel."
