YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–President of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic Arkady Ghoukassian participated in a solemn ceremony on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Karabakh State University held October 13 in Stepanakert. He paid tribute to the memory of students of the University who were killed during the war.
Congratulating those present on the anniversary of the University–which is a staple of the educational and cultural life of the country–the president said:
"Great and invaluable are the role and services of this cathedral of science established 30 years ago. Our country has worked its heroic way to the future which is being built today.
"On the battlefield the Karabakh people displayed courage and heroism. But I consider it to be the same heroism that after going through the crucible of war–our people did not lose its thirst for knowledge and aspiration for self-betterment. An eloquent testimony to this is the full classrooms of the University–where each student is a vote of confidence in the promising future of our country.
"Among the achievemen’s of our country we proudly include Karabakh State University that generates highly-skilled specialists. The generation which will assume the difficult and important mission of being the master of the republic’s future is being tempered here."
Later that day the Karabakh president met with a delegation of scientists and teachers led by Pro-Rector of Yerevan State University–Academician Eduard Chubarian. The delegation arrived in Karabakh on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Karabakh State University.
The president stressed that he highly appreciates the role of Armenia and the Diaspora in the development of the University and expressed optimism that the cooperation will become traditional.
